Your Health Today
For those following along with the New Day’s Evolution, how is it going? I’m finding those 3 daily things are really adding up! My endurance is improving, my waist is smaller, I’m loving doing something daily that adds to my happiness, my relationships are experiencing positive growth, and I’m waking up looking forward to completing the new list each day.
We’ve talked about why I picked improving relationships and choosing happiness, so let’s take a look at the health side of it today. As many of you know, I am a big fan of Scott Sonnon’s Circular Strength Training (CST).
The first time I saw the Prasara DVD playing at a colleague’s place, I was fascinated with the motion. After investigating a bit, I ordered Intu-Flow to see if it would be of any use to my patients. I didn’t order it for me because I had little hope that anything was ever going to take away the chronic back pain I had endured since herniating a disc at the age of 19. But as I continued working through Intu-Flow, an amazing thing happened. The pain of 17 years started to melt away and pain-free motion took its place. I could do yard work, clean the house, wrestle around with my great nieces, treat as many patients as I could schedule, and not have to wonder if I’d be able to get out of bed the next day. After years of pain, I was free.
As you can imagine, that profoundly affected my life and began my love for CST. Since then I have done work within all three wings (Intu-Flow/joint mobility, Prasara/soft tissue elasticity, Clubbell/strength) and the practice continues to enhance my life in a multitude of ways. One of the things that I most enjoy is that CST promotes a health-first paradigm. I’m approaching 40 this year and I hear other people of similar age talking about how they can feel that they are getting older. I can tell that I’m getting older because “kids” I used to know are now having kids of their own, but I don’t feel older. If anything I feel younger. Just today a client commented that I look younger than I used to. I am training in a way that helps experience pain-free motion and it is having such a positive impact upon my health that other people think I look younger – how cool is that?!
Your good health is one of the most valuable things you have. However, too many people take it for granted. People who are ill didn’t plan to be that way. They didn’t think to themselves that they would just ignore doing healthy things so they could end up in pain and enjoy life less, but they didn’t think about how the things they were doing would affect them in the long term either. What you do today matters. What you do today impacts who you are tomorrow. If at the end of a year there were more days with health promoting things than without, you are likely to be healthier. If not, well, you may just find yourself feeling older and less well. But “less well” isn’t a road you have to go down and it isn’t just what happens as the years go by. Today and every day you have a choice in the life you live, in the life you create. So, what did you do today to improve your health?
Today I did a deep round of Intu-Flow and followed it up with a little over 15 minutes of FlowFit. There is something that just feels good about moving my own weight around! While I’m using slightly different exercises, I’m still following along with one of the protocols in the Bodyweight Exercise Revolution eBook by Ryan Murdock and Adam Steer. If you haven’t checked out the recent interview of Coach Murdock, please do so. And check back often because there will be an interview with Coach Steer soon!
Until next time, may your choices and behavior today create a better ‘you’ tomorrow.
